T Government and NGO’s doing commendable job in providing shelter for urban homeless
Justice Kailash Gambhir a retired judge of Delhi High Court lauded the state government and the NGOs for doing commendable job in providing shelter for urban homeless. Speaking at a convergence meeting of various line departments today, he asked the officials to regularly visit the shelters to ensure that they are run as per the guidelines of the National Urban Livelihood Mission. He suggested that CCTV cameras should be installed at all the urban shelters. He also said the inmates should be provided RO purified drinking water ,coolers and computer facilities. All the inmates should be provided with legal and medical aid. He also asked the officials to explore the possibility of providing PDS rice or meals through the Annapurna scheme to all the inmates.
Secretary Municipal Administration & Urban Development Mr Navin Mittal informed the members that the state government is ready with an action plan for the next three years. Commissioner GHMC Janardhan Reddy said that the issue of urban homeless is being addressed in the city through a special mission. Survey for juvenile and child beggars is also being taken up in the city, he added. The Director Municipal Administration Dr T K Sridevi gave a overview of the activities being taken up by the department with regard to urban homeless through a power point presentation.
Justice Gambhir along with Neeraj Gupta and Sanjay Kumar are members of the Supreme Court committee constituted to physically verify the functioning of the Shelter for Urban Homeless in different states.
