DURGAM CHERUVU is old tank served as the drinking water source for the residents of Golkonda Fort under the rule of Quthub shahi dynasty (1518-1687). This tank is restored later on by PWD in 1970. This is very good tank having more capacity (138.64 Mcft). There is also parapet wall over the bund at front side stated to be constructed during Jagir time. This lake is also called as Secret Lake as its existence is in between two hillocks. Its maximum depth of water at FTL is 7.70m (i.e., 25ft). There was irrigation for 184 Acres under the command of this tank.

As per the FTL survey conducted by this department, the FTL area is worked out to 160.60 Acres. The present area up to which water can retained is worked out to 125.00 Acres. The balance area to an extent of 35.60 Acres is covered with encroachment.
It was decided to Develop & Beautify the Durgam Cheruvu in following Phased manner after number of high level meetings conducted by secretary to IT with K. Raheja IT Park (Hyderabad) Pvt.Ltd, TSTDC Ltd, TSIIC, GHMC and HMWS&SB.
Phase-I (LAKE CLEANING WORK): Cleaning of the lake fromwater hyacinth which would be done over a maintenance period of one year with an amount of Rs.50.80 Lakhs duly meeting the deposited funds from CSR of K. Raheja IT Park (Hyderabad) Pvt. Ltd. The work is in progress.
Phase-II (CIVIL WORK): Formation of Cycling track and Promenade (Walking Track) to a length of 2.20KM (PHASE-II) with 2-Entrance Plaza, Children’s Play Area’ and Yoga Corner as a part of Beautification of Durgam Cheruvu to an amount of Rs: 200.00Lakhs for which administrative approval was accorded by Commissioner, GHMC. Based on tender process, the work is being entrusted to M/s.Sri Sai Constructions. It will be grounded shortly.
Phase- III : Construction of Barbeque Area, Fabrication work (Safety Railing), Stone Pavement works (Decorative Works), Electrical works, Greenary / Grass Turfing works and Billboards are the proposed items of work under Phase-III. The estimate is under preparation.
Construction of Ganesh Nimajjanam Koneru:
There are immersion of 3000 odd Ganesh idols every year in Durgam Cheruvu. Ganesh Nimajjanam Koneru is proposed to construct for bringing it into use this year at a cost of Rs 90.00 Lakhs for which sanction is accorded by the commissioner GHMC. The estimate is under process for calling tenders. The work is likely to be grounded during May,2017.
